A Milestone & A RAK

Hi all! Happy 4th of July (ok a day early but know I'll be busy tomorrow so....)!

I'm tickled to death. I received an email from Christy at Scarlet Lime saying she was going to put one of my layouts made with her kit in the newsletter and link my blog to it! I have been thinking about trying to get published or try for a design team assignment but was doubting myself so this couldn't have come at a better time. I have a lot of time on my hands now with my boys grown so I think I really would love to pursue that route in the scrapbooking world. It's one of these two layouts - I didn't ask which one but think it is most likely the first one of my garden. What do you think?
Make sure you check out Jennifer McGuire's blog http://jennifermcguireink.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/06/card-drive-for-kids.html she is doing a card drive for her neices and nephew in Africa - lets make some cards for these kids....
NOW FOR THE RAK

In honor of my first "pub" I am giving away 2 stamp sets - 1 for 2 lucky winners!! First prize is a K&Ko Amy Butler stamp set which is one of my favorite products right now. I use this all the time very versatile on cards & layouts. I like to use the little flourish stamps to dress up my Prima or Kaiser flowers. Second Prize is a Scrappy Cat Journaling Blocks stamp set.

All you have to do is post a comment - keeping with the theme of 4th of July how your family spends the day.....I will do this "old school" each person who posts will have their name written on a slip of paper and my darling hubby (who bought the stamps) will draw a winner on Tuesday July 8th at 10 pm eastern time to allow those on vacation time to enter too. One entry per person please. International scrapbookers/stampers welcome to join in.....

I'll start us off: we're going to my parents for a cookout and to swim. In the evening, our little city has fireworks that we can see from the main road so we walk down there with our chairs and have a front row seat for the show without getting stuck in any traffic - can't beat that. Of course we'll remember our soldiers in service right now and that they are the reason we can continue to celebrate with freedom our nations birthday.....

Hi Suz! Congrats on your layout!

We will check out a streetfair in lower Manhattan unless the rain that is predicted is really nasty...then we'll hit the movie theater. In the evening we have the great fireworks on the river! Happy 4th!

I will be exhibiting 2 photographic prints in a group show that runs from July 4 - 27, in Raleigh. My mom is coming into town and we're all going to the opening reception for the show... where we'll see a bunch of my friends. Afterwards, we are going out to dinner. Happy 4th of July!

By the way ... Congratulations Suz! Way to go, getting published and all! :-)

Congrats! That is such an honor! As for my traditions...different years we do different things. Typically I go to the city's parade and fireworks on the 3rd of July but this year I'll be staying in for some "me" time to do some art stuff and relax. On the 4th of July some years I love going to the beach in the a.m. and cooking out later in the day. Enjoy your 4th and Thanks!

I think I entered my comment on the wrong post *LOL* I did answer the question though so I hope you'll still add me to the drawing, hee hee.

That's wonderful news! Congrats!! :)

With the 4th being my birthday we always have BBQ, birthday cake and ice cream with my family. Then later that night we always fire off some fireworks. When I was a kid, we'd switch celebrating my birthday on the 4th or the 5th...lol because my brother's is the 5th. Yep, a brother for a birthday present when I was 6 years old. But we don't do that anymore because 5 years ago he moved to CT and we're in TX.

Have a Happy 4th!!!

Congrats Suz!!

We spend the day with our extended family having a bar-b-que & fireworks. We play yard games & have a good family time :)

Congratulations on your first PUB!

We're going on a 4 hour trip to the Sparkling City by the Bay & plan on watching fireworks. It's kind of magical seeing the colors reflected on the dark water.

We will be spending Fourth of July this year down at a camp that we have close family friends at. They are located on a lake and we go out on the pier and watch the fireworks from all the little towns all over the lake. Plus a few set off from people's boats! It is always grand fun! Happy Fourth to you too!

We usually just stay home outside all day and bbq. Unfortunately my mom was coming home from work and called about an hour ago and broke her car. So DH will be looking at it tomorrow.

Hi Suz! Congrats! Your layouts are beautiful. Here in Georgetown, Kentucky, we are spending the afternoon watching one of my sons play in a baseball tournament, going to the ice cream parlor, and watching fireworks at the county park. A perfect day!

congrats on your layout,

our 4th of July plans will probably be very low key

My kids are visiting from So. Cal, they are going to San Fran for the day...in the evening we may go to a friends' for bbq.
(I hope to scrap during the quiet time)

I'm doing a pre-celebration run and then heading over to celebrate with the parents. We'll fire up the BBQ and grill some burgers, sausages and...salmon steaks and veggies.

I'm in the Bay Area, so not sure what the fireworks situation will be (lots of fires out this way). But we can watch on TV if nothing else.

Congrats on your first pub!

Well, all of us "kids" in my family are older, so we usually keep it simple for the 4th. This year my mom and I are going out to dinner, followed by a fireworks show over the river. Then I may go make an appearance at my friend's bbq.

Happy 4th of July!!

Congrats on gettin published!

As for me.....well my hubby and I are here in CA all alone....our friends and family are far away so we do not really have anything planned for tomorrow. Maybe drive close to the Dodger stadium to see fireworks.....and probably eat out!

Thanks for the opportunity!

HAPPY JULY 4TH ALL!!! BE SAFE!!

Hi Suz!

Congrats, how exciting!!!! Thanks for the chance to win. This will be our first 4th of July with my daughter who is almost 7 months old so we won't be doing anything too exciting as every day is on her schedule! But we'll have a cookout with some yummy food and sit and hopefully relax on our patio a little bit. And maybe catch the fireworks - we might be able to see the ones they have at Seaworld in San Diego at our place! Have a great holiday weekend.

Greetings from the UK. Hope all the celebrations are fun - will be thinking of you. (Needless to say it's not a holiday for us here)
Thanks for the stamps offer - came through 2Peas.
Congrats on being published - you must be thrilled!

We've already seen the fireworks on the 3rd. On the 4th we're seeing a parade in the morning. If the weather cooperates, we may head for the pool in the afternoon. We'll then end the day at a b-bque at a friend's home. It's going to be a full day for my 2 toddlers... we'll have to sneak in a nap or two in there somehow. Congrat's on your "pub." And TFS! :)

This is my husband's second FOURTH of JULY holiday that he has spent in Australia.. I am going to try and make it special for him by cooking him a special dinner and going through our photos of previous July 4 celebrations when we were in the US.. Happy 4th of July :-)

PS: thanks for letting us "internationals" join in! :-)

Hi Suz!

Congrats on being published! How exciting!!

Our 4th will be celebrated quietly this year just my husband and I and two teenage boys. It will be my first 4th without my daughter {she is 21 and just recently moved out and is spending the long weekend camping with friends...not liking this empty nest thing}.

Have a happy 4th!!

Hugs,

Because I am in Calif and the air quality is very bad and the fire risk is high, my family is foregoing the fireworks this year. Instead my son is taking me for brunch tomorrow. Then my hubby and I will kick back at the house and try to calm the 4 kittens a stray brought to us in the backyard. LOL I am a sucker for a stray!!! Then gonna finish up a 2 page LO of my aunt that passed away last Dec. Can't help but think of the 4th of July's in the past when my son was young tho. Guess that makes me old now. LOL

HI Suz!

I think we spent at a lot of time together last weekend at an "Ice Cream Social."

This year's 4th is going to be different for us...my DH has been out of town for two weeks--and will be gone another week now too! So, I am flying down to visit him in SC--we will be watching fireworks in Charleston! Not too shabby!

Traditionally, we head to a local town where they have a huge display off some barges in the river! They are choreographed to music. Usually my sister and her DH come to visit and wee them, but this year my parents are coming instead!

P.S. Congrats on the LO!!!! I recognize them from the social! (A Heavenly Hash Sketch and I can't remmeber the other one! :) ) Great job!

CONGRATS TO YOU! YEA!!!!!! I love both of the layouts, so it is hard to say which one got picked! let us know!

Today, I will be home cooking for tonight, and the husband is putting a lift on his truck. Tonight we will go to my sons in laws to have a good old fashioned BBQ! We get to watch fireworks without leaving as well. Their upstairs balcony has a panaramic view of out city! How lucky are we!
I will also be remember those who risk their lives to keep mine!

HAPPY 4TH!

Happy 4th of July!! We normally celebrate with BBQ and parades and family reunions. This year I have to work so we will stay home and just BBQ. Maybe watch some fireworks.

Congrats on the pub! Thanks for dropping by my blog & leaving a comment. :)

As for the fourth, usually DH & I take in a baseball game & fireworks. This year our team is out of town so we had that little celebration on Tuesday. Today we'll be quietly celebrating at home with a little cookout tonight. Happy 4th!

here's one of my fav. 4th of july memories: i was in early high school and didn't drive yet. my friend and i were DESPERATE to go see fireworks with our friends (and no parents) but we failed, despite trying for HOURS to arrange something. but my friend's dad finally felt bad for us and agreed to take us to a professional baseball game on the 5th.... which included a fireworks show AFTER the game! :)

hi Suz - im from the UK so the 4th July was never a family tradition growing up, however about 3 years ago we met an american couple who are now our best friends. i love them to bits and we get to share cultures, gotta love thanksgiving and of course 4th july. our new found tradition for independance day is going camping in a remote camp site and making all american schmores (if that is how you spell it) we bring photo albums of our families and spend the day roaming the landscape free as a bird, and the evening remembering far off families members! x

We went to my sister's for a barbeque and played Apples to Apples. Its become a tradition to go to her place on the 4th and play some game. Usually its one of those Shout About games but we opted for a little quieter this time.

Well, today is now the 5th, so I'll tell you what we did - we attended an old-fashioned fourth of July picnic with music, games, swimming, and more at our local country club. Then in the evening, my boys had friends over and we had two other families to shoot fireworks and make s'mores on the firepit in the backyard. It was a great day.

Hi Suz! Congrats on your Scarlet Lime pub!! Your LO is gorgeous! (wasn't that a fabulous kit?!)

My birthday is July 4. We just spent a nice, relaxing day and had a small party with all the trimmings.

Hope you had a fabulous 4th!

Oh, and good luck wishes for more pubs in the near future!

We usually just do a lazy day and then fireworks. Some years we go on the river with DH's cousin and watch them from the boat, but due to all the flooding this year, they aren't taking to boat to the river for a while :( So, we went to the local fireworks in the next town. We helped DS's boy scout troop make and sell kettle corn and hot dogs before the fireworks. Was a nice evening.

We took our son in his wagon to our neighborhood 4th of July parade. We always decorate his wagon and he looked so cute in the parade. Then we went to my dh's aunt and uncle's house for a cookout and swimming. We had to skip fireworks this year since I'm pregnant, but we still had a fabulous day.

I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday.

My husband always does a big cook out for us, then we head to the local fireworks. After that we come home and let the kids play with sparklers.
Hope everyone had a great day like us!

firstly congrats on teh Pub!

WELL...since we dont celebrate July 4th in Australia, I will tell what we do for our version of 4th July - *Australia Day* (January 26th). It ALWAYS involves a good old Aussie BBQ, and a game of cricket. And if we are at the beach, the day is complete! Fireworks are usually in the mix, but it always depends on the heat and fire bans. Got love a holiday though!
