Congrats y'all & thanks for your support of my blog & sweet comments.  Send me your snail mail address sgray110 at gmail dot com & I'll forward to my generous sponsors

So what are your plans for New Years Eve?

Normally we go to the square in the small city we live in.  They really do a fantastic New Year's celebration.  There is many different live bands ranging from rock all the way to big band which was my favorite.  Being in the historic courthouse & seeing all the musicians & beautiful singer dressed in a long gown takes you back to a different time & reminds me of my grandfather who was a piano player & instilled the appreciation & love of all types of music in me but especially the old standards.  It's so festive & perfect for New Year's Eve.  There's even a big dance floor for those who want to cut a rug.... The other bands are scattered around the town outside or in different buildings.  Plenty of food choices at the restaurants or typical festival food (I can't leave without a funnel cake - yum).  A horse drawn carriage ride or a spin around town on an antique cable car that has been converted with wheels gives a break to walking.  Finally at midnight the fireworks go off to greet 2010 (though we never stay that long).  It  looks like this year will be rained out... and with my broken tail bone I'll be ushering in the new year in front of the TV.  Oh well... hopefully next year I'll be able to enjoy a favorite tradition.

Well that's all for today - I can tell it's going to be a slow day these bones are having a hard time getting moving today (wow I feel like I'm ancient).  Have a great one!

Everything Scrapp'n Challenge Day

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!  Ours was going to be quiet already due to my injuries (it sure stinks not being able to bend down without pain & use my left arm) but then Christmas Eve morning  Andrew came down with the flu.  I felt so bad for him yet at the same time we were all trying to stear clear of the germs.   Brandon & I went to my parents for a great dinner while Charley stayed home with Andrew to keep his spirits up.  I know he was feeling bad when he wouldn't even eat Turkey dinner (his favorite)!  He's still sniffing & caughing up a lung but slowly getting better.

Well this will not by your typical Everything Scrapp'n blog hop.  Michelle has also been sick with the flu so she will have her work up on the ES Blog later in the week.  It might be nice to stop by her blog & send her some get well love.

The weeks after Thanksgiving are so busy that it's a relief when "the day" finally comes.  As New Years approaches I start thinking of all that happend in the past 12 months.  Even the TV news shows turn to reflecting on the past year's events.

So I thought it was a perfect time for a Journaling Challenge.... Reflections or Resolutions - I challenge you to do a layout about yourself.  Either about what was in 2009 or what you hope for 2010.  Each of the ES design team has created their take on this challenge.  Join in & post yours on the Everything Scrapp'n Blog by midnight Jan 9th for a chance to win a gift certificate to the store.

Here's my take on the challenge - I know I gave you a sneak peak a couple weeks ago during my blog anniversary - hoping some of the Unity fans would play along....

"2009-My Everyday Life Memories"

I "aged" the ribbon with gold Glimmer Mist

Supplies: Cardstock (Bazzill); Paper (Graphic 45 - Domestic Goddess); Rub On Letters (American Crafts & Heidi Swapp); Sticker Letters (Making Memories); Bling (Prima - Say it in Pearls Strip); Ribbon (Maya Road-Black Gingham & Maya Road - Beige Gingham); Ticket (Tim Holtz); Tag (K&Co & 7Gypsies); Pin (Vintage stash); Chipboard & Image Rub On (Maya Road); Spray Paint - to age the ribbon (Tattered Angels - Glimmer Mist); Stamps (Journaling Spot & Letters - Unity Stamp Co)

I love ribbon & trim - this one by Maya Road is so versitile

For my other project I was feeling sentimental & wanted to do a layout about my hubby.....  The Pink Paislee - Fetching line is perfect for the guys in your life.

"I Am So Lucky to Have Found You"

Supplies:  Cardstock (Bazzill);  Paper (Pink Paislee - Fetching & Pink Paislee Vintage Moon);  Letters (Jenni Bowlin - Tiny Alpha & American Crafts - Thickers); Journaling Spots (Jenni Bowlin - Memo Book Black);  Stickers (Jenni Bowlin - Apothecary Black); Trim (Websters Pages - Turquoise Petite); Bingo Card (Jenni Bowlin)

My favorite product in this layout is the Webster's Pages Trim...

Finally - If you entered my contests before Christmas... I have 2 winners who have not contacted me....

Saturday before Christmas....

Thanks everyone for celebrating my blog anniversary this week!  I really appreciate the encouragement & comments.

Remember midnight today is last chance to enter the contests for the 6 prize packs.  See my post last Saturday.

I thought I would update you about my doctor visit yesterday.... I broke my butt lol.  Yep I've cracked my tailbone into two pieces - only treatment is sitting on a cushion for 2-3 months & letting it heal on it's own.  There are some other do's & don'ts I spare you the details but that's what I'm dealing with.  My arm seems like a torn rotator cuff and damaged the ulner nerve but I'll have an MRI on the 28th to confirm/rule out.  I'm in a lot of pain & relying on my sons to help me do most things even around the house as I can't bend/lift/twist & can't use my left arm.

So I'll be the one handed crafter for longer than a week lol

Have a great weekend & stay warm.

Friends with Flair - Growing in Unity Day 5

Well we've come to the end of my Growing in Unity week of posts.  Thanks so much for allowing me to brag on & show off my favorite stamps by far of any I've worked with.

Thanks for all your comments & encouragement - you're all awesome!

I was telling you yesterday how much I love the journaling spots from Unity.  Not only are they huge making them super useful but that have so much style making them a great addition to any page.

Here's a page I made for the upcoming Everything Scrapp'n December 28th Challenge using a journaling spot from the the now retired October Scrapbook KOTM.  Don't let the December Scrapbook KOTM get away without buying it - see it here.

I love the jagged edges & plenty of room given for a lot of journaling....

Be prepared for some self-reflection, because this page will be all about you! You're a part of the family too and should be in those scrapbooks as well! Participate in the challenge for a chance to win a $15 gift certificate to Everything Scrappn'.   Or better yet head on over to the ES store blog & sign up to receive the feed updates.

I'm stalking the mailman for my Dec KOTM - it's a standout!  If you aren't a KOTM member Angela has made it impossible not to sign up... see the Thurs blog post $75 worth of stamps for $24 - plus a coupn for 40% off next order!

I'll close with a quote since that's the "Unity" thing to do....
"Sometimes our hearts get tangled
And our souls a little off-kilter
Friends and family can set us right
And help guide us back to the light.

Growing in Unity - Day 4

Woops I hit publish some how on this new web-book - I haven't gotten the hang of things yet.... so if you get the email version it's incomplete.

Well I've always heard that the 3rd day after an accident or surgery is the worst - I sure felt it on Wed & was lucky to be walking (the bruise that showed up on my back is over a foot long - yikes).  So I'm posting some of my favorite projects and how I store my growing collection of Unity Stamps

I store the Kit of the Months (that arrive as sheets of rubber to punch out) keeping them together.  I've thought about breaking them apart by type & as my stash gets bigger I may evolve to that.  But for now the cheapest way I've come up with is buying a package of those clear plastic report covers with slider bar that I used in school (oh so many years ago).  I take one of the clear pages & put a piece of cardboard between with some adhesive.  Then I add my stamps.  To make it sturdier I insert this into the heavier plastic report covers that I use like a file.  I've tried several different kinds & found the Avery ones from Krogers to be the best & cheapest at less than a dollar.

These "files" are stored in a basket & I can thumb thru them quickly.

The sets of stamps are packaged in these cute kraft envelopes.  I cut one of those clear plastic report covers in half & adhere a piece of cardboard between for sturdyness.  I've also found acrylic sheets or shrinky-dink sheets work better but are more expensive.  I then adhere the stamps & slide them back in original envelopes.  I also keep them in a long narrow basket (this one was one of 3 in a set at Walgreens)

Fianlly the wood mount stamps are hung on a repurposed cd rack with binder rings.

As money permits I hope to change to the storage cases Unity sells... but for now this works.

I really am sorry I wasn't able to scrap today.... here's my favorite stamp in action on a layout.

I love Unity journaling stamps they are huge & the designs add a lot of flair to any project.  Giving plenty of space to write while adding interest.  Check all the great designs here in the store.

Stamps used:  US-225W Fact of Love

I love Unity Stamps for making cards - this quilted look one is one of my best sellers....

Another favorite - Love their quotes

Finally I thought I would share some news that tickled me to death.... I was published in the December issue of Scrapbook Trends (first time in paper print) - There's some Unity on this layout.... bottom left corner I used several stamps to spell out "friends for life" (sorry didn't have the original back yet from ST to take a photo of the stamping)

If you haven't already entered - leave a comment for the blog anniversary giveaways here.  Thanks for the great response & helping me celebrate!  If I get 100 followers I have another prize package valued at over $50 to giveaway so that will be 7 winners instead of 6 so spread the word... each time you do you can leave another comment....

Thanks for visiting & I promise to have some new work up for day 5.    See you Friday for Friends with Flair - Unity customer blog hop.

Growing in Unity Day 3

Thanks for coming back for day 3 of my Growing in Unity Week.

I'm typing this with only my right hand as I fell down the steps while house hunting yesterday!  I know it's always something with me - right...  sometimes I think I have a dark cloud hovering lol.  Anyway I stretched the nerve and may have tore a tendon/muscle in my left arm, banged up the right & can barely walk with my low back & right foot.  I'm a mess.  Saw dr. today for arms & see back/foot guy on Fri. (couldn't get in to see someone who does it all - crazy).  I'm in a sling for a week.

I don't think it would have been so bad if the house was a great house but this one sure wasn't (almost like adding insult to injury).  It was a foreclosure in good shape priced way below value... the catch was the floor plan (4 stories) and the lot (tucked onto a cliff).  We barely got up the driveway in low gear!  I feel really bad for my dad (he's our Realtor) I almost gave him a heart attack when I was at the bottom of the steps while he was at the top locking up.

This is driveway curve from the top - it reminded me of houses in California or hills of Pittsburgh not here in Atlanta....

These are the front steps I fell down (slippy from drizzle & tree sap).  I was holding on for dear life for fear I would hit the bottom & roll down the hill to the street - all the while holding my digi-slr camera and flip digi video camera (they are safe - yay)

So apologies for the simple cards I'm posting.... they were created with one hand!

Supplies: Stamps (Unity Stamp Co -UK-312A Jolly Little Winter); Paper (Basic Grey); Cardstock (unknown); Ribbon (American Crafts); Ink (Mementos); Markers (Copic)

Supplies:  Stamps (Unity Stamp Co - KOM-SEPT09 {go ahead...wish} & Unity Stamp Co - UK-427A Sending My Love); Paper (Teresa Collins); Ink (Hybrid); Ribbon (Hobby Lobby);

Finally it's a little off topic but as a breast cancer survivor this is something near & dear to my heart....

I also wanted to share with you a fantastic book of poetry called "The Six o'clock Siren" written Sandra Evans Falconer a breast cancer survivor.  Sandra said, "I'm a writer( poetry) and started writing poems on my breast cancer experience in 2003. Now -  - after a 6 year "birthing"  - the book is out and ready to be in the world!"   She is friends with my best friend, Lori Neikirk, who also took the photo for the cover (it looks magical).  I'm so proud of her - it looks great!  The book is moving & heartfelt.  I would highly recommend it.  It's self published so you can order copies directly from Sandra for $20.
Her email is evansfalconer@aol.com

SE Falconer
807 Cathedral St., 2nd Floor
Baltimore, MD. 21201

Well that's it for day 3.  Remember to enter my blog anniversary contest here if you haven't already done it - great prizes thanks to my generous sponsors.

See you tomorrow with more one handed crafting & typing lol

Growing in Unity Day 2

Thanks for coming back for day 2 of my Growing in Unity post.

If you're a regular reader of my blog you know that I'm not a chronological scrapper.  I work with photos as they inspire me.  So at any time I could be working on current photos or those from way back to when my grandparents were children.... You also know we had a house flood from the icemaker that ruined a bunch of scrapbooks that were in the family room directly underneath kitchen in a split foyer house.  It was heartbreaking but thankfully I was able to salvage some photos & get copies from family members so from time to time I work on photos when the boys were young.  I actually enjoy it since they are now men these old photos transport me back to another time & I get to use the super cute products out there now recreating these family pages.

"Class Pix Day" - my oldest son Andrew's 3rd grade school photo.  I love this fun paper from Fancy Pants.

Stamps Used: "Star" - UK-328A This is the TIME (minature set), "U R SMART" - Sept Scrapbook KOTM (retired), "Schoolhouse" -KOM-AUG09 Following my Heart

Supplies:  Paper (Fancy Pants & Sassafras Lass); Cardstock (Bazzill); Chipboard Shape (Heidi Swapp); Ink (Hybrid);  Punch (Fiskars); Bingo Card (Jenni Bowlin); Brad & Clip (Joann's Craft Essentials); Metal Embellishment (Making Memories); Alpha Letters (American Crafts - Thickers); Adhesive (Tombow & ZVA Pop Dots)

Not only does Unity have a great monthly stamp kit but now they are offering a very limited edition scrapbooking kit.  In addition to a full sheet of super large stamps you get 12 sheets of scrapbook paper & a Hybrid ink pad.  I own them all except for November but I'm not letting December's kit slip thru my hands - if my hubby hasn't already ordered it for me for Christmas I'll be getting it for myself.  Here's a photo of both the sets.

December KOTM (remember new subscribers receive a gift set of stamps too & discounts on past KOTM)

Thanks for visiting & I'll be back on Wednesday with Day 3 of  Growing in Unity....

Remember to enter my 2nd blog anniversary contest by midnight Saturday here - there's lots of great prizes!  Thanks to all the new & old followers who have already entered - I really appreciate each & every one of you & thanks to my sponsors for making it extra special!

=============================================

My loyal readers know how much I love Unity Stamps.  They are high quality, versatile & economical.  Angela (Owner of Unity) sure knows how to "enable" with her sales.  My collection has been growing each month now that I am a Kit of the Month subscriber.  A lot of the other brands of stamps in my stash get used every so often but I find that Unity Stamps can be used in so many different ways & are just as at home on a scrapbook layout as they are on a card that they are always being inked up.   I get so many compliments on cards that I made with their stamps that I have been able to sell them to "fund my habit".

=============================================

Ok now for the inspiration..... I've loved using the Pink Paislee Mistetoe & Co line & hardly have a scrap left.  I've included links to shop for all the items used from both stores.

I only own a whimsical snow set of Unity Stamps that weren't appropriate for the more elegant feel of this paper... so I started to think outside the box & look thru my everyday sets of stamps to see if I could come up with a Christmas Card....

Of course since this line of paper already had postcard images on some of the embellishments I knew the large Unity postcard wood mount stamp would be a perfect background.  Then I started scrounging through the sayings.... using 3 stamps from different KOTM or sets said what I wanted to say & looked great too.

Stamps Used:  "Season of blessings" -KOM-SEPT09 {go ahead...wish}, "dream of the magical things" - KOM-NOV09 Simply Magical, "sending love your way" -UK-427A Sending My Love, & Postcard  - US-1027W Vintage Postcard

Supplies:  Paper (Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co North Pole); Ribbon (Hobby Lobby); Ink (Hybrid & Colorbox); Card (Joann's Craft Essentials)

=============================================

Now for a couple of layouts....
"Santa Being Naughty or Nice" - is a page about my grandfather.  He was a character to say the least.  Several years he played Santa for the children of the members of the musicians union in Pittsburgh PA.  Having the belly already & a great costume made the kids smile & believe in the magic of the season.  I couldn't resist scrapping this photo that wasn't for the kids.... but oh so him & his sense of humor.

The stamp I used to make the trees at the bottom was actually a banner that spelled out happy.  Turning it around it reminded me of Christmas trees & I covered up the words with a saying from another everyday set of stamps - making it work with what I had on hand.... Heat Embossing made the lettering less clear & Stickles helped conceal whatever "giggle" didn't cover.

"happy banner"

flipped upside down to make a tree border

Stamps Used:  "happy" bannner a.k.a my "trees" - KOM-JUNE09 Perfect in Every Way & Tiny Giggle Grove

Supplies:  Paper (Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co North Pole, Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co Reindeer Games, Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co Joyeux Noel, & Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co Postcards); Stickers (Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co Borderline Stickers); Alpha Stickers (Pink Paislee - Expressions Cardstock Alpha Chocolate); Tags/Cutouts (Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co Cardstock Cutouts); Ribbon (Maya Road - Gingham Beige); Ink (Colorbox & Ranger); Embossing Powder (Ranger); Glitter Glue (Ranger - Stickles); Pin (Maya Road - Trinket Pin Crystal)

=============================================

"All About the Tree" - our Christmas season doesn't begin with shopping on "Black Friday" but putting up the tree & decorating the house.  Once the tree is up it really starts feeling like the holiday season.  We love to look at the twinkling lights and talk about the memories that the ornaments bring to mind as each one is hung.  No everything doesn't match but somehow it all goes together - just like a family I guess.

No stamping on this one... it just felt done the way it was.

Supplies:  Paper (Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co Naughty or Nice, Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co North Pole, Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co Postcards); Tags (Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co Cardstock Punchouts); Stickers (Pink Paislee - Mistletoe & Co Borderline Stickers); Ribbon (Maya Road - Gingham Beige); Alpha (American Crafts - Thickers & Jenni Bowlin Tiny Alpha)

=============================================

I hope you will join in the Everything Scrapp'n Blog Hop & leave a comment on each of the blogs for a chance to win a gift certificate.  The next stop is.... TERESA

I'll be back Tuesday with another Growing in Unity post.
